These past few months have been a whirlwind of life-highs – today culminates this period with my wedding to Alice Dillard which officially creates a new family.
Just about three years ago Alice and I went to the Mississippi State Fair with a group of friends. We held hands and shared a cinnamon roll and ate some chicken-on-a-stick from Penn’s and had our first kiss on the midway amongst the carnies and humongous stuffed animals. Thus began the little spark that has grown into deep respect and admiration and laughing and love.
Chance and I have always got along. I knew when I started dating Alice that I couldn’t take it lightly because there was this little boy named Chance involved too. Chance has brought out the kid in me. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that anyone can be a Father. Dad is earned and what better testament to my growth in life than having such an awesome 8yr old call me his Daddy.
The three of us have collectively gone through a lot of change in the past year. We’ve all taken it one day at a time, shedding some tears but mostly with laughter.
I’m so happy my family and friends will be able to share tonight with us. For those that were unable to make it, you will be missed but know that I think of you from time to time and your friendships are important to me. My life needed to take a turn a few years back and I no longer have the contact and intimacy I once did with many who cared for me. I miss you all and wish you could be here with me today.
I spent a year in New Jersey and I was told that if I put first thing first and went about life with an attitude of gratitude, my life would turn out OK. My life is nothing I ever dreamed of. Wildest dreams don’t compare.
