Although the U.S. Mint has introduced a number of redesigned bills and coins over the past two decades, some within the creative community are proposing a U.S. monetary re-brand to assuage the current economic malaise. I wish I had some real illustration and design skills because I would love to work on a project like this. As a child, I used to love to examine bills and coins – domestic and foreign. When living in Tanzania, I loved all the signs and symbols used in their currency.

The new ballpark will seat some 37,000 people which is about 35,000 more than they seat now on most nights at Joe Robbie (yes, I called it Joe Robbie because it will always be Joe Robbie – don’t even get me started w/ this Land Shark crap). Lots of the prefunctory luxury boxes and suites, as well as a pool and patio area.

The above image is from the pits during today’s practice at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
Farm Bureau Insurance is a client of ours at MadGENIUS – this weekend is their first foray into the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. I’m excited for the client and interested to see of all of our hard work these past few months on behalf of SFB will pay off with increased brand exposure.
We actually have a pretty solid chance at fairing well – Denny Hamlin – one of the sport’s top drivers will be behind the wheel this weekend. Denny hasn’t won yet this year – but he’s been close a few times. His team is owned by Joe Gibbs Racing, one of the premier stock car racing teams in the sport.
Learn more about the team and the sport here at the site I built for Farm Bureau Insurance Racing:

If you can bear it, tune in on Fox starting at around 6pm CST.

I really enjoy a good display of information – its one of my secret pick-me-ups. Be it a New York Times chart in the Week In Review or Sunday Magazine. So it was especially cool for me when doing a little post-lunch-internet-clicking, I stumbled across www.fangraphs.com, a website dedicated to baseball data in all shapes and sizes. Slice and dice to your heart’s content, and when you’ve found what you want, export to excel or similar spreadsheet program for charting goodness.
The graph below shows the Florida Marlins’ batting averages (non-pitchers only) ordered by most common batting order for all regular season games through May 5, 2009.

I came across this widget that lets you plug in your b-day, select a movie (Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, Ghostbusters, etc.), and it calculates the exact frame you would be on today. I’m told that based upon a life expectancy of 77 years, I’m roughly 49% of the way there. That means my life is potentially close to 49% over. What an exciting place to be… Mid-life.
That’s as tough to hear as when the haircut lady used the words ‘comb’ and ‘over’ in the same sentence. Ouch.

Hewlett Packard has launched a magazine print-on-demand service that looks like it could very well make the publishing of high-quality print-pieces something no longer the purvey of high-cost designers and publishers. Much like what has already taken place in the book realm with a host of online print-0n-demand outlets, this launch opens the door to low-cost, high-quality print production.
Price point is amazing – roughly $4.00 for a 20 page full color magazine.
How cool would it be to create a magazine following a trip? a wedding? for a company?
At that price-point – its almost a no-brainer.

CORAL GABLES – Ann Rubinoff persevered through a less than perfect round to capture her second Women’s Club Championship at Riviera Country Club located in tropical Coral Gables, FL.
Family, friends, and supporters cheered Ms. Rubinoff as she approached the 18th green with the confidence only reserved for repeat champions. As the gallery swelled with applause for the Rochester, NY. native, Ms. Rubinoff tipped her visor in what was seen by many as a signal of her deep admiration for her adoring fans.
This win was especially significant for Ms. Rubinoff, having had to miss the 2008 tournament due to an important social event. “Vindication,” an exasperated Rubinoff replied in reponse to this writers inquiry as to what this year meant to her. “When you’ve been gone for a year, you really never know if its still in you. Well I found out today on that course… I showed this friggen club what Ann Rubinoff is made of, and she’s engineered from high tensile determination, stress-tested tenacity, and a large helping of never quit.”
Next up for Rubinoff will be the Cullusaja Club Championships as the LCCGA (Ladies Country Club Golf Association) moves to the Appalachian Mountains for its summer tour.
