What an early present this would be?!?
If Gruden doesn’t work out, I believe UM will raid Starkville and steal away Dan Mullen.

While not official, all indications point to a UM vs. Notre Dame matchup in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
The Hurricanes (7-4) will seek to earn one more victory under Interim Head Coach Jeff Stoutland (former Offensive Line coach).
The Sun Bowl will be celebrating its 77th year. It’s held in El Paso, TX, the U.S.’s 22nd largest MSA and lies just north of Mexico’s Ciudad de Juarez, made infamous by its rash of narco terrorism in recent years. Talk about a PR problem!

The news hit me like a punch to the gut Sunday morning. What? Randy Shannon gone as UM head football coach?
Sadness. Disappointment. Dissolusionment. Remorse.
I pulled hard for Randy Shannon. Miami has turned its program around from being a bunch of lawless thugs to being an academic leader in college athletic circles. His personal story and his rise to head coach is legendary and moving.
Randy Shannon IS Miami football. He was a player, assistant, and coach. He is an African American. He helped wright the ship.
In the end he didn’t win enough games. Simple as that.
I don’t like it. It still stings.
I wish it would have worked out.
I wish Randy Shannon was still Miami’s coach.

The D stymied a depleted option attack and Steven Morris led the O to an impressive win. WR Leonard Hankerson tied #47 Michael Irvin’s TD record. Looks like Morris will start against the only ACC school ranked higher than the Canes, Virginia Tech (#16 BCS).
Maybe the best part of this past week is that the Miami Hurricanes are now the highest ranked football team in the state of Florida – ahead of the lowly Florida Gators and ACC rival, Florida State. Yeah!
I am travelling down to see my folks and sister in Miami this coming weekend and will have an opportunity to watch the Canes take on Va. Tech from the Atheletic Director’s box! Not a bad way to watch the Canes!

There’s been a lot of talk in political circles concerning the extension of the Bush era tax cuts. I’m not going to get into the fudging of semantics on the issue where one side calls a repeal of a tax cut a tax increase and vice versa (petty political bull).
I do however wish to present this graphic which shows in no uncertain terms the disparity with which both parties treat the highest income earners.

Mediocrity sucks. Somehow the Canes pulled it out. Exciting win over a marginal opponent. With the win Miami improved to a 6-3 record and became officially bowl eligible.
Next up… Georgia Tech – the #1 ranked rushing team (320.6 yards / game).

Gregory Isaacs is one of my favorite reggae artists. I really got turned on to him when I lived in Tanzania from 1995-1997. Reggae was something I always loved being from Miami, but I expanded my affinity for the style while I lived in Africa. Mr. Isaacs’ music wafted through the streets and alleys in towns across East Africa from small bars and nyama choma joints. His style was melodic and non-confrontational. Easy listening.
RIP Mr Isaacs. Your music was loved the world over.
