To Buy A Schwinn Bicycle I Would Have To Drive At Least 1.5 Hours

Schwinn Dealer Locator - Jackson, MS

So I’m looking to buy myself a bike. Feeling a little nostalgic, I went onto the Schwinn website and browsed a few road / urban models. When I found one I liked I learned that I’d have to drive at least an hour and a half to visit a dealer who carries the brand. Guess Schwinn’s aren’t as popular as they were back in the 70’s and 80’s where it seemed like every bike shop around carried them.

ABC’s Work-It A Bosom Buddies Rip-Off

6 June 2011

As a lunch-time distraction, I decided to take a peek at some of the Fall 2011 shows the big three networks were planning on feeding us. In doing so, I stumbled upon this gem –  Work-It. It only took a couple seconds before I found myself wondering where I had seen this formula before. It was in Bosom Buddies – an early 80’s sitcom that gave Tom Hanks his start. \

Really ABC? No wonder so few people actually watch network TV anymore. The best you can do is copy formulae from 20 years ago.

Is It Wrong For Me To Not Want The Heat To Sweep?

Because if they make it back to Miami for a game 6 on Sunday, June 12, 2011, I have an opportunity to go to the game with my dad.

No. It’s not wrong. It’s justified.

Miami Heat, please do not sweep the Mavs.

Major General Ambrose Burnside – Best Civil War Facial Hair?

23 May 2011

In celebration of the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War, Smithsonian Magazine has published a fun quiz that allows you to vote for the Best Civil War Facial Har.

As of the time of this writing, Major General Ambrose Burnside, for whom Sideburns are named after, is running away with the voting with some 11,500 votes! His nearest competitor is currently J.E.B. Stuart, a Confederate General who fought at Gettysburg, among other battles.

Clearly, the mid 1800’s was the definitive renaissance period for facial hair in America.

Operation Adagio – Lunch With My Wife

Me / , ,

18 May 2011

I periodically freak out at how quickly life moves by – seemingly with little taken out of it on my part. I often feel as though I blink and another month or six weeks or a winter or even a year has gone bye and I have few if any meaningful memories of the time period in question. It saddens me a bit.

I live in Jackson, MS which by all accounts is a pretty lackadaisical locale. I have little traffic issues, I live relatively close to work, and I’m not involved in a ton of extracurriculars. Yet, I still manage to feel so rushed and discombobulated at times, I might as well be living in New York City.

I mentioned this to Alice, my wife, last night and she suggested we have lunch today. We did. We met at The Beagle Bagel Cafe and had an alfresco lunch outside and enjoyed each other’s company, talked about the weekend and plans to visit my family in November. We laughed a bit and shared our food and I felt great having done so.

Operation Adagio has commenced.

Canine Helped Tackle Osama

K9 Navy Seal Dog

The Navy Seals that took down Osama Bin Laden did so with the help of a single pooch. I’ve always enjoyed learning about the use of various animals in military operations – dogs, dolphins, seals, birds, etc. However I was a little surprised that dogs were used by Special Forces units in such high-profile operations.

There’s a ton of info on this angle to the Osama assasination. Here are some of the links I found most enlightening:
