The Florida Marlins swept the National League East leading Philadelphia Phillies – pulling to within 4 games of first place and only 3 games behind San Fransisco and Colorado who currently share the NL Wild Card lead. The three wins helped avenge a post All Star Break debacle where the Fish dropped 3 in a row back in mid-July.

The Marlins are playing some good ball overall. They recently acquired Nick Johnson, a solid hitting 1st baseman, from the Nationals. The bullpen is playing very well. Our main starters, Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco are playing very well. The team’s hitting is way above what I think anyone would predict.

This over-achieving team has the ability to make the playoffs. Need to keep an eye on the surging braves however.

The Marlins return home to Joe Robbie Stadium to take on the Houston Astros, who are playing sub-500 ball.
