December 27th may not be the biggest day of Miami Hurricane QB and Miami native Jacory Harris’ relatively young life. Winning a state football title and then moving on to the highschool national championship may rank higher than a mid-tier bowl. Harris and several other Miami Northwestern grads have brought a can-do and winning attitude to The U this year and my instinct tells me he will shine like he did in the prep ranks as he leads the Miami Hurricanes against the California Golden Bears in San Fransisco, California for the Emerald Bowl.
Jacory Harris spent most of the year as a back-up, taking a series here and there during the second quarter, as UM head coach Randy Shannon groomed his young protige bit by bit into the cauldron that is D-I NCAA football. There always loomed some controversy between normal starter, Robert Marve, and Harris. Often this controversy seemed more media contrived than official.
All that may have changed for the worse as parents and friends of now suspended Robert Marve air their apparent distaste for the way Shannon handed down a suspension against Marve. There was little explanation. I’m sure race will be brought up. From what I can tell however, Marve tends to think of himself as a bit of a badass – gang-typographical tats along his triceps. If he could get away with wearing a grill he probably would. The fact is that he’s from Plant City – probably as far away from the hood as you can get in fla… but I digress.
The miami area blogs point to some pretty basic facts. He didn’t go to class. He didn’t show up on time. Period.
Shannon runs a tight ship. Last year he stripped the names off of the jerseys to take any ME from TEAM. This year, he benches his starting QB for the bowl game.
Whatever the outcome on the 27th, this move is impressive and bodes well for The U’s future.
Go Canes!!!
