As part of an exciting new project at work, I did some cursory research into the varieties of NASCAR themed websites for teams, drivers, and major sponsors. Three overreaching categories emerged…

I. Embedded Corporate Racing Sites
site lives within global corporate shell

II. XHTML/SEO/CMS Friendly Racing Sites
site lives on its own, employs grid layout, includes flourishes of rich media but core is XHTML

III. Full-Blown FLASH Experiences
massive download yields rich, brand-intensive experience

There seems to be a trend away from the blowout flash site in favor of more updateable, SEO friendly sites that incorporate blogs, podcasts, a considerable amount of text-content, multimedia, and a store in many cases.
